Jan Stewart Memorial Wellness Lecture: Lessons Learned From the Sharp End of Care: 40 Years of Collective Experience Supporting the Caregiver (1 Class A CE with .5 Pharm)

The impact of adverse events on the caregiver has been well described in the literature since Albert Wu coined the phrase "second victim" in 2000. The expectation by colleagues that fellow healthcare professionals will ably manage the stresses of practice often predisposes healthcare professionals involved in and impacted by an adverse event to experience isolation, blame, and shame.

This session will share lessons learned from the sharp end of care from pioneering researchers with 40 years of collective experience supporting the caregiver through the development and implementation of clinician peer support programs. It will explore the relationship between the management of adverse medical events and clinician peer support programs and propose synergistic approaches that enhance the wellbeing of the healthcare professional and promote a culture of safety within organizations that enhance quality and safety structures.

Class A credit can only be earned for participation in synchronous learning via live in-person or live webinar sessions. In-person attendees can only receive Class A credit for the sessions they attend live.
