Nicole A. Gonzaga Gomez, DNP, CRNA, APRN, CHSE is the Associate Program Director, DNP Nurse Anesthesia Program, and Assistant Professor of Clinical at the University of Miami School of Nursing & Health Studies. She has been a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist since 2004 and started her nurse anesthesia career at NYU Langone Medical Center. In 2006, she focused her practice on obstetric anesthesia and served in the Chief OB CRNA role in a busy south Florida community hospital. In 2015, she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Johns Hopkins University and joined the UM Faculty in 2017. Dr. Gomez received her Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator in 2020 (re-certified in 2023,) and has presented at several state, national, and international meetings on obstetric anesthesia, clinical evidence-based practice, and in simulation education, such has mixed-reality applications and peer-to-peer mentorship for advanced skills competencies. Both her presentations and publications have centered around peri-anesthesia clinical practice improvements and has mentored her doctoral advisees’ presentations at the state and national level. Nicole has also served as a medical mission volunteer with The Healing Hands Foundation providing anesthesia for surgical procedures in Central and South America since 2010. In 2018, she began mentoring UM SRNAs on the medical mission trips to Guatemala and started bringing SRNAs to Peru in 2024. Nicole is the faculty advisor to the University’s nurse anesthesia student group, Nurse Anesthesia Students Association (NASA,) which focuses on diversity, mentorship, and community. In 2023, Nicole was a contributing author in Taylor & Terhaar's Preparing for Doctoral Study in Nursing: Making the Most of the Year Before You Begin (2023) which featured shared experiences of practice nurse narratives.
