Rhea Temmermand is a scientist and CRNA doing basic and translational research in chronic pain at Drexel University's Pharmacology and Physiology Department. She studies glutamate transporters (specifically GLT1/EAAT2) on astrocytes and its role in pain modulation. Rhea is particularly interested in non-opioid drug discovery, pain circuitry and substance use disorders. From this work, she was awarded the Art Zwerling Grant and the CRNA Scholar Award from the AANA Foundation.
As an Adjunct Professor, Rhea has taught nurse anesthesiology courses at a variety of programs, including Drexel University, Case Western, Thomas Jefferson University and Augusta University. She volunteers for the NBCRNA, AANA, AANA Foundation and started a non-profit for Filipino American Nurse Anesthesiologists. She is co-editor of a comprehensive science textbook for nurse anesthesiologists.
Most recently, Rhea co-founded a digital education company, Atomic Anesthesia, to support basic and clinical science education for nurse anesthesia residents, faculty and nurses preparing for graduate training.
