Dr. Luci New is currently an Assistant Professor at Wake Forest School of Medicine Department of Academic Nursing in the Nurse Anesthesia Program. She is also a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and works PRN as a CRNA at Gateway Ambulatory Surgery Center.
She received her DNP from Wake Forest School of Medicine, Department of Academic Nursing, in 2020. She received her MSN from UNCC and completed the Nurse Anesthesia Program at UNC – Charlotte.
She is currently an Advisor to Atrium Health Enterprise on Implementation of a peer support program and serves on the Mental Health Task Force for Atrium Health as well as the recently formed Center for Well-being & Development Advisory Council.
She is a member of a nationwide collaborative group for the American Hospital Association in developing an action plan for suicide reduction among healthcare organizations. She is incorporating suicide prevention training to the existing peer support training of which she has oversight.
She served as part of a focus group for the American Hospital Association in 2022 related to peer support programming content expertise.
Presented locally, regionally, and at state and national levels to diverse professionals on the topics of Second Victim Phenomenon, peer support programming, burnout, substance use disorders, and other wellness related threats.
She is a QPR instructor for suicide prevention.

She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA), North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists (NCANA), North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) and American Nurses Association (ANA). Co-chair of the NCANA Peer Assistance and Wellness Committee and State Peer Advisor. She also serves on the Education and Research Committee for the NCANA, which she also served as President from 2018-2019.
Dr. New is married to John, has a son Julian, a daughter Ashley. She enjoys running, cooking, and traveling.
