Julia Harris, MSN, CRNA, FAANA, owner of Vaporworks Nursing Anesthesia, Inc., is completing her PhD studies in Health Policy at the University of California, San Francisco. Ongoing research includes the Effects of Anesthesia Availability and Nurse Anesthesiology Scope of Practice on Veterans’ Access to Surgy; her dissertation will focus on the economic aspect. She is an active leader within her state and national nurse anesthesia associations, the Society for Opioid-Free Anesthesia (SOFA), and AcademyHealth Surgical and Perioperative Care Advisory Committee. She has lectured extensively at regional and national meetings and has been a spokesperson including interviews by NPR and other podcasts. Clinically, Ms. Harris has focused heavily on the study, application, and teaching of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. Her business focus has centered around the complexities of anesthesia billing, initiating the effort for opioid-free anesthesia (OFA) reimbursement, and evaluating the fiscal impact of OFA. Her personal interests include volunteering with international organizations such as Doctors Without Borders. She loves to hike, bike and have her dog Aspen take her for long walks.
