This presentation aims to raise awareness among CRNAs about the social determinants of pain. This is relevant because health disparities are personal, community, and systemic in nature, and addressing them requires individual, community, and systemic-level interventions. While most CRNAs may not see themselves as community providers, reaching people where they spend time – homes, schools, neighborhoods, and faith-based communities may have a greater impact on pain outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss how the social environment affects pain outcomes.
Identify examples that illustrate how social factors affect pain.
Identify key considerations for CRNAs when caring for diverse patients with various chronic pain conditions.
