Russell Burney, Emilio Montero, and Nathan Rokosz are senior SRNAs from the University of North Florida's Doctoral Nurse Anesthesiology Program. During their clinicals, many anesthesia providers shared unpleasant experiences caring for patients taking GLP-1 receptor agonists and how they desired guidance or a tool to minimize the anesthetic risk for these patients. After learning the benefits of conducting a gastric point-of-care ultrasound, they realized an educational curriculum to teach CRNAs and SRNAs this valuable skill does not currently exist in any program. They decided to develop an educational program to teach CRNAs how to conduct a gastric point-of-care ultrasound so they can make informed clinical decisions to minimize anesthetic risk.
