Jackie Rowles is the AANA representative to the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA) and also the current President of IFNA. A recognized leader in global nurse anesthesia and nursing, Rowles is a sought after lecturer on both the national and international levels. She serves as a member of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists Global Anesthesia Workforce Survey committee. She lectured at the WFSA Patient Safety Summit in 2019 on "Anesthesia Manpower: Ways to Bridge the Gap", and at the WFSA World Congress for Anaesthesiology on "Working Together to Achieve Success." She is a member of the United Nations SURGhub content committee, offering free global education to all members of the perioperative team.
Rowles has a particular interest in advocacy for recognition and full education of Nurse Anesthetists on the global level. She was the catalyst for and member of the task force which developed the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Advanced Practice Guidelines: Nurse Anesthetist, and co-editor of 2 books on global nurse anesthesia, a chapter author for the upcoming ICN Advanced Practice Nursing Toolkit, and has been asked to serve as a co-editor of an upcoming global book on APN advocacy.
Dr. Rowles has been the recipient of multiple awards, most notably the AANA Agatha Hodgins Award for Outstanding Accomplishment, AANA Alice Magaw Clinical Practitioner of the Year, the AANA Foundation Rita L LeBlanc Philanthropist of the Year, and the IFNA Hermi Lohnert Award for Outstanding Global Accomplishment.
